What is Citation Share?

The share of all citations for a set of questions that point to your own domain.

Definition

Citation Share is the proportion of citations across sampled answers to your tracked questions that point to pages on your own domain, as opposed to review sites, publishers, communities, marketplaces or competitors. It is the citation counterpart of AI Visibility, and the two should be read together.

Combining mentions and citations gives four states: a stronghold (mentioned and cited), visible but not cited (mentioned, someone else cited), cited but not visible (your content used, brand not named) and an open opportunity (neither). Each state calls for a different action.

Why it matters

A high mention rate with a low citation share means the brand depends on sources it does not control, which can change their minds.

How it is measured

Citations to your domain ÷ all citations for the question set, per platform and topic, on dated runs. flowgen AI Visibility reports it as Citation Readiness together with a page-level citability check.
