Definition
A citation source is the website, article, review, video or community thread an AI answer points to as the basis for what it says. Across a set of questions, the sources form a map of who teaches the engines about your category.
The mix varies by industry. In some categories brand sites dominate; in others review publishers or forums do. The sources that recur across your questions are the ones worth earning coverage on or correcting.
Why it matters
The sources decide the story. If three review sites supply most citations in your category, their accuracy about you matters as much as your own website’s.
How it is measured
Every cited URL in sampled answers is recorded and grouped by domain and source type. The report shows the top cited domains, your own share, and the questions where a single external source is cited repeatedly.
