What is Off-page GEO?

Strengthening accurate, credible information about the brand on external channels such as press, review sites and communities. The relevance of the source and the reliability of the information matter more than collecting links.

Definition

Off-page GEO is the work of making sure accurate, credible information about your brand exists on the sources engines actually cite in your category: press, specialist media, review sites, communities and marketplaces.

Engines weigh claims that several sources agree on. A specification that appears the same way on your site, in a review and in a forum thread is far more likely to be repeated than one that appears only on your site.

Why it matters

Most citations in most categories go to third parties. Ignoring them leaves the story about your brand to whoever happened to write it.

How it is applied

Start from the sources the audit shows are cited for your questions, not the biggest outlets. Pitch with data so the claim survives summarization, correct wrong facts at the source, and keep a press page with numbers, dates and names in plain text that others can repeat.
